Until 1978, this intersection had a flashing signal, with 71st Street having the right of way. At that time, the present signal was installed. The intersection is pretty much rural at this time, with the only major establishment being Union High School and stadium at 69th Street and Mingo Road. Woodland Hills Mall and a few other shopping centers are located a mile west at Memorial Drive. This view looks north on a Sunday morning, which explains why there aren't any cars on the roadway. Traffic counts will increase when the Mingo Valley Expressway, which currently is unfunded, is extended through the area. Photograph taken December 1982.
