A minor widening project helped transform the 71st Street and Garnett Road intersection from a major traffic bottleneck to one with improved traffic flow. In early 1987, the intersection was a four-way stop sign. In the summer of 1987, work began on laying asphalt lanes to expand the intersection for additional lanes on each approach. There are two through lanes (one each way) and left-turn lanes on all four approaches, with right-turn lanes for all but southbound traffic. The interim widening project will help traffic flow until funding becomes avaialble to widen the intersection for additional lanes. Photograph taken March 1988.
