The 61st Street and Garnett Road intersection has undergone a major widening project that included widening 61st Street to five lanes between the Mingo Valley Expressway and 145th East Avenue. The intersection was widened and rebuilt with concrete to accommodate two additional lanes on each approach and a westbound right-turn lane, in addtion to the lanes installed for the interim project. The portion of 61st Street between the Mingo Valley Expressway and Garnett Road is concrete, while the portion from east of Garnett Road to 145th East Avenue is asphalt with a concrete curb and gutter. The project was funded through the city's Vision 2025 package, which Tulsa voters approved in 2003. Construction on the Tulsa portion began in 2004 and was completed in 2005.
