Traffic flow has improved at 61st Street and Garnett Road following an interim widening project that added left-turn lanes to the intersection plus right-turn lanes for all but westbound traffic. There is one through lane each direction. The project was built by adding asphalt lanes to the intersection and then resurfacing it to complete the project. Construction began in the summer of 1988 and was completed in early 1989. The project is a temporary remedy to the once-congested intersection. Eventually, the intersection will be widened to four lanes and rebuilt with concrete, but there are no funds available now to do the project. Photograph taken January 1989.
