The 51st Street and Mingo Road intersection project helped improve congestion along 51st Street east of Memorial Drive, which included widening 51st Street to five lanes from the Mingo Valley Expressway to near 93rd East Avenue. This widening project's completion leaves only the section between Memorial Drive and 93rd East Avenue to be widened, a project that is part of the 1991 sales tax package. A construction date is unknown, but the project will widen the gap, so to speak, and give motorists four or more lanes on 51st Street from Lewis Avenue to Garnett Road, a distance of six miles. This view is looking east from the hill at Memorial Drive, with the Mingo Road intersection in the distance. The man at left is unidentified. Photograph taken September 2, 1991.
