This is the third Mingo Road intersection (including 21st Street and 101st East Avenue) to be improved from the 1977 bond issue. Prior to widening, the intersection was quite congested and had a westbound no-left-turn sign in effect from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. weekdays. The original signal was a cable-strung traffic signal similar to those at many other two-lane intersections at the time. The widening project, which began in the summer of 1980 and was completed in early 1981, involved widening the intersection to four lanes with left-turn lanes on each approach and right-turn lanes on Mingo Road. The section of 41st Street between Mingo Road and the Mingo Valley Expressway also was widened to four lanes. During construction, left turns were banned from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. weekdays and later at all hours at the intersection. Traffic flow has improved following the project. The northbound left-turn lane carries a lot of traffic turning west on 41st Street to access the Broken Arrow Expressway. The Fina station on the southeast corner previously was a Champlin.
