Improvements are halfway completed at 21st Street and 129th East Avenue, as the 21st Street approaches and intersection have been widened through a 1985 sales tax project that widened 21st Street to four lanes with a left-turn median between Garnett Road and 137th East Avenue. The project included widening the 21st Street and 129th East Avenue intersection, which is asphalt, and building left- and right-turn lanes on 21st Street. A new traffic signal was installed, but no work is under way on 129th East Avenue at this time. The right-turn arrows do not operate on 21st Street, and this will continue until the 129th East Avenue approaches are widened through an upcoming 1985 sales tax project to widen the street between 21st Street and I-244. Eastland Mall recently opened, so traffic on 21st Street is heavy at times. Photograph taken August 1986.
