The 11th Street and Garnett Road intersection is complete following two projects that widened the Garnett Road approaches. The south approach was widened in the early 1990s when I-44 was widened to six lanes through the area. The project included replacing the bridges and widening Garnett Road from south of I-44 to 11th Street. In 1998, construction began on widening Garnett Road from Admiral Place to 11th Street. The project, which was funded by the 1996 sales tax, was completed in 1999, including the north approach at 11th Street. Today, the intersection has four lanes on Garnett Road and six lanes on 11th Street with left-turn lanes each direction and right-turn lanes on Garnett Road. The former eastbound right-turn lane at 11th Street and Garnett Road has become the third through lane, which continues through the I-44 interchange. The former eastbound cloverleaf entrance ramp from 11th Street to I-44 was eliminated during the widening project, and traffic now must turn left onto the eastbound I-44 frontage road to access the interstate.
