The former intersection of 51st Street and Garnett Road has been transformed into a large reinforced-concrete box bridge, which is quite a change from the small bridge that once bisected the intersection. The intersection has been removed to allow construction of the bridge. The detour on the intersection's northeast corner is in use, but a corresponding detour was not built on the southwest corner. Instead, motorists are traveling two side streets to connect between 51st Street and Garnett Road. However, the two detours are not connected in any way, as there is no way to cross the intersection at this time. Photograph taken September 2, 1989.
