The Woolaroc: Winner of the 1927 Dole Race, Oakland to Hawaii. This is the eleventh in a series of pen and ink renderings depicting Aviation in Oklahoma by award-winning Tulsa artist Monte Toon. The artist shows the famous Woolaroc on the grass at Wheeler Field in Hawaii after winning the Dole Race from Oakland to Hawaii with pilot Art Goebel and navigator William V. davis aboard. Time: 26 hours, 17 minutes and 33 seconds. This was August 16-17, 1927. The oil industry and the aviation industry grew up together in Oklahoma. This wasw well demonstrated by oilman Frank Phillips in the case of the Woolaroc. His cash picked up the tab when Goebel's original backers failed to come up with money. The aircraft, a model 5000 Travel Air, was completely resored in its original orange and blue and is back on exhibit at the Woolaroc Ranch
