The general merchandise store sold such items (seen in the photo) as horse collars (hanging from the ceiling on the right), rifles, pistols, ammunition, and black powder (kegs on the right), cookstoves (center), oil lamps and other household goods (on the left). A soda fountain can be seen in the left background. Notice that all the adult men shown sport mustaches. T.J. Archer is shown on the right leaning against a a counter. The man standing behind Mr. Archer is wearing a heavy coat suggesting that this photo was taken during the winter. Mr. Archer was severly burned when an intoxicated patron fired his pistol into the store, striking one of the kegs of black powder. The patron was killed instantly and Mr. Archer died 30 days later as a result of his burns.
