Peoples Ice Company ice wagon, 1926. The man in the picture is Fred Smith, who worked for the company and drove a route in North Tulsa. His day began at 5:00 AM, and the horses knew the route so well they could walk it automatically. The day ended about 6:00 PM, and he had to take care of the horses before going home. The ice was produced at the power plant at night using excess power. The company was located on the northwest corner of West 1st Street and South Cheyenne Avenue.
